It was written to support the latest web standards, and also gained the same rapid release cycle as Chrome and Firefox (releasing every couple of months). In 2015, Microsoft released its successor to Internet Explorer: Microsoft Edge. It is also falling far behind the more modern styling standards that have become available in the last few years. It already misses out on faster and more capable JavaScript execution, for example, which can lead to poor website performance or functionality that just doesn’t work. This means that, while they will still release security patches for the browser, it will not gain any of the more modern abilities that more recently updated browsers have – and with the technology used on the web moving at an incredibly fast pace, Internet Explorer is rapidly being left behind.
